Gutter Clearing and Flushing in Colonie

Every run gets emptied by hand, every downspout gets water pushed through it, and we watch how rain will actually leave your roof. Small faults we fix while we are up there. Bigger ones we photograph and explain, so you can decide calmly.

Clear gutters keep water where it belongs

A gutter only works when water can run its full length and drop freely through the downspout. Leaves, seed pods, shingle grit and pine needles settle into a damp mat that holds water against the fascia and adds weight to every hanger. Left long enough, that weight pulls sections out of pitch and the overflow runs down your siding and into the soil along the foundation.

We treat this as careful work, not a quick scoop. The debris comes out by hand, the troughs and downspouts get flushed, and we watch the water run before we call the job finished.

Our approach is repair before replace. A gutter that leaks at one seam or sags at one hanger usually needs a small fix, not a new system, and we will say so plainly.

What the visit covers

Hand removal of debris
We scoop leaves, needles and sludge out of every run and bag it, so it does not end up in your beds or on the lawn.
Downspout flushing
Each downspout gets water run through it from the top. When one is packed, we clear it from the elbow or the outlet until it drains freely.
A flow and pitch check
With water running, we look for standing pools, slow corners and spots where the gutter has pulled away from the fascia. Those are the places that overflow in a hard rain.
Small adjustments on the spot
A loose hanger or a downspout elbow that has slipped off is often a quick correction. We make those fixes during the visit and tell you what we did.
Photos and a plain report
You get pictures of anything worth watching, such as a rusted seam or a section that has lost its slope, with our honest view on whether it can be repaired.
A tidy finish on the ground
Anything that dropped during the work gets gathered up, and we hose off any muck that landed on walkways or siding. If you are home, we walk around the house with you at the end.

Signs your gutters need attention

  • Water spilling over the edge

Overflow in a steady rain usually means a clog in the trough or the downspout. It can also mean the run has lost its pitch.

  • Plants growing in the gutter

Seedlings and moss only take root when there is a bed of wet debris underneath them. By then the gutter has been holding water for a while.

  • Sagging or pulling away

A gutter that dips between hangers is carrying weight it was not built for. Clearing it early often saves the fasteners and the fascia behind them.

  • Stains and wet spots below

Streaks on siding, peeling trim paint or a soft spot in the mulch under one corner point to water going where it should not.

  • Ice buildup along the eaves

In a Capital Region winter, clogged gutters freeze solid and help ice back up at the roof edge. A fall visit after the leaves drop gives meltwater a clear path.

What shapes the price

We price gutter work on the house in front of us, not a flat number pulled from a chart. On the phone we explain what goes into your quote. If we find something on site that changes the work, we talk with you before doing it.

Length of gutter

Every extra stretch of trough and every added downspout adds minutes on the ladder, both to empty it and to run water through it.

Height and roof access

A single-story ranch goes faster than a steep two- or three-story home where ladders need careful placement on every side.

How full they are

Gutters that have gone several seasons without attention often hold compacted sludge and packed downspouts, which takes longer to remove.

Guards and screens

Covers have to be lifted and reset to clear underneath them, and some styles take more care than others.

How the visit runs

  1. 1

    Your quote by phone

On the call, describe the home for us: one level or two, the trees that hang over it, and the last time anyone emptied the gutters. With that picture we put together a price at no charge and settle on a day that suits your schedule.

  2. 2

    A look before we start

On arrival we walk the roofline from the ground, note any damage already there and set ladders with standoffs so nothing rests on the gutter itself.

  3. 3

    Clearing and flushing

We work run by run, removing debris by hand, then flushing troughs and downspouts and watching how the water moves.

  4. 4

    Fixes, photos and cleanup

Simple corrections get made on the spot. Anything bigger goes in your photos with a clear explanation, and we leave the ground around the house tidy.

Gutter questions we hear most

What is a sensible schedule for clearing gutters?

Two visits a year suit most homes. The first comes in late autumn once the branches are bare, and the second in spring when seeds and blossoms have stopped dropping. A house shaded by tall maples, oaks or pines may call for a third. After our first visit we can recommend a schedule based on how much we pulled out.

Do I need to be home during the visit?

No. We need access to the outside of the house and, ideally, a working outdoor spigot for flushing. If you are away, we send the photos and a short summary when we finish.

Will you tell me I need new gutters?

Only if it is true. Most problems we find, like a loose hanger or a leaking end cap, are small. When a section is rusted through or badly bent, we show you the photos and explain why repair would not hold.

Do gutter guards mean I never need clearing?

Guards cut down on leaves, but fine grit and seed pods still collect underneath and on top. They usually stretch the time between visits rather than end them. We clear under the guards and reset them as part of the work.

Can you work around permanent lighting along the roofline?

Yes. We take care not to disturb lighting tracks or wiring mounted near the gutters. If you are thinking about permanent exterior lighting installation, clear, well-pitched gutters make a better base for it.
