Permanent Exterior Lighting Installation in Colonie
Our crew mounts permanent lighting in a low-profile aluminum channel finished to match your trim. It nearly vanishes in daylight, then gives you warm white accent light or holiday color after dark. Everything is app-controlled, so the ladder and the tangled strands can stay in the garage.

Lighting that stays up and looks like it belongs
Permanent lighting is a run of individually controlled LED nodes set into an aluminum channel. The channel mounts under the drip edge, on the fascia or along the gutter line, and it is color-matched so it reads as part of the house rather than something added to it. You choose scenes from an app: soft white for every night, red and green in December, team colors on a Sunday.
Good results depend on the details most people never see. We plan where each run starts and ends, where the wire crosses a corner, and where the power supply sits so it plugs into a protected outdoor outlet. A clean install has no visible zip ties, no sagging sections and no gaps at the peaks.
If you already have a system that has started acting up, we look at repairing it before we talk about anything new. A dead stretch of lights is often one failed node, a loose connector or a tired controller, and fixing that costs far less than a full replacement.
What your installation includes
- A roofline layout plan
- Before any track goes up, we walk the house with you and mark each run, corner and peak. You approve the route and the spot chosen for the power supply first.
- Track finished to blend with the house
- We pick an aluminum profile and finish close to the shade of your fascia, so the run fades into the home exterior during the day. The metal also shields the LEDs from sun, ice and wind-driven rain.
- Careful mounting
- Fasteners go into solid trim, not loose gutter seams or soft wood. If we find rot or a pulling gutter where a run should go, we show you before we mount anything there.
- Controller and app setup
- We connect the controller to your home Wi-Fi, build a few starter scenes with you and set an everyday on and off schedule. You leave knowing how to change colors yourself.
- Cleanup and a final walk
- Packaging, cut-offs and stray fasteners leave with us. We light the full system after dark with you so you can see the finished result.
Signs permanent lighting is the right call
You dread the ladder every November
Clipping strands to icy gutters in the cold is the part of the holidays nobody enjoys. A permanent system turns that job into a few taps on your phone.
Your strands keep failing
Seasonal lights take a beating from snow, sun and storage bins. If you are buying new sets every year, a sealed track system usually ends that cycle.
The front of the house goes dark at night
Soft roofline light improves curb appeal and helps you and your guests see the walk and the steps without a harsh floodlight.
An existing system has dead sections
Before you replace everything, have us check it. A single bad node or connector can black out the rest of a run, and that is usually a straightforward repair.
You want light all year, not just in December
Warm white on weeknights, colors for birthdays or the Fourth of July. One install covers every season.
How the work goes
- 1
A free quote by phone
Tell us about your house, the rooflines you want lit and any lights you already have. We set a time to see the property and measure.
- 2
On-site measurement and plan
We measure each run, check the condition of the fascia and gutters, and find your nearest outdoor outlet. You get a written quote that lists the footage, the hardware and anything we found that needs attention first.
- 3
Installation day
Most homes take a single day. We work from the outside only, so you do not need to be home for the mounting, though we like you there at the end.
- 4
Testing and handoff
After dark we run every scene, check that each node responds and fine-tune the brightness. Then we walk you through the app so you can make it your own.

What moves the price
We do not publish a flat rate, because no two rooflines are alike. Price follows the footage you choose to light, the ladder work it takes to reach it and the state of the trim the track will sit on. Your written quote breaks out each part so install day holds no surprises.
- Linear footage
- The total length of track and lights is the largest single factor. Lighting only the front elevation costs less than wrapping the whole house.
- Roof height and pitch
- Low eaves go up quickly. A tall colonial with dormers and several peaks takes more ladder setup and slower, more careful corner work, and the quote reflects that time.
- Trim and gutter condition
- Track has to go on sound material. If a gutter is pulling away or the fascia is soft, that needs sorting out before mounting, and we will tell you plainly what we found.
- Power and controller location
- If a protected outdoor outlet already sits close to where the runs meet, setup is simple. Longer wire runs or a second power supply add to the cost.
- Repairing an existing system
- Fixing a failed node, connector or controller is priced separately and is usually a small job. We only suggest replacing a system when parts are no longer available or water damage runs throughout.
Questions about permanent lighting
Something not covered here? (518) 760-0533
Can I see the track during the day?
Hardly at all. We choose a finish close to your trim color and fit the channel snug beneath the roof edge or along the fascia. From the street it reads as part of the house until evening, when the lights come on.
What happens to the lights in a hard winter?
The LEDs are sealed inside the aluminum channel, so sleet and meltwater stay off the electronics. When we plan the runs, we steer clear of spots where ice dams build up and where snow slides off the roof in sheets.
My existing lights have a dark section. Do I need a new system?
Usually not. When one node or connector fails, every light after it on that run can go dark. We trace the fault and replace the failed part, and we only recommend a new system when parts are discontinued or the damage is widespread.
Will installation damage my roof or gutters?
We fasten into solid trim and keep away from shingles. If a gutter is loose or the fascia is soft where a run should go, we point it out and talk through options before mounting anything there.
Do I need an electrician?
Most systems plug into an existing weatherproof outdoor outlet, so no new wiring is needed. If there is no outlet in a sensible spot, we will tell you during the quote visit so you can plan for one before install day.
